Running With The Bulls……..
On Saturday morning May 30, 2009 Jim Watson along with Allen and Chris Norberg of Columbia, SC experienced first hand what it was like to run with the bulls. The beauty of it all was the fact they did not have to travel to Spain to experience the excitement. It all took place aboard the Stand ‘N Down II with Captain Keith Logan and 1st Mate Jonny Jones of Stand ‘N Down Charters in Holden Beach, NC. The crew fished the Blackjack Hole on Saturday morning. Within just a few minutes of the spread being put out reels were screaming and the action was on. The third fish of the day proved to be a Bull Dolphin in the mid thirty pound range. Before Jim Watson could boat the fish two other reels went off with gaffer size dolphin on each one. The day provided multiple hook ups with two and three dolphin on at the same time requiring Captain Logan and 1st Mate Johnny Jones to put it into overdrive. Captain Logan reports that one dolphin estimated weighing in the upper 40 pound range straightened a #2 treble hook before the gaff could be planted while the fish was boat side. Although a few fish broke off, the crew still landed its fair share of multi-colored hard hitting dolphin. To say it was a great day at the stream would be an understatement for an awesome time was had by all. The named poison of the day once again was Captain Bob of South Chatham Tackle’s Pirate Plugs and the Blue Water Candy Blk/Purple skirts. Stand’N Down Charters would like to thank Jim, Allen, and Chris for joining us today and we look forward to fishing with you again soon…

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise
 5/23/09
The old adage of calm seas never made a skillful sailor certainly applied to Captain Logan of Standing Down Charters, Holden Beach NC on Saturday’s trip out to the Gulf Stream. With an east wind blowing up 6 ft head seas stacked atop of each other, the Stand ‘N Down II was able to make about 26 kts toward the 100/400 for some Mahi action. Within 8 miles of the destination Capt Logan called for the Black Bart Lures to be put out, hoping that would start the day off right with a Wahoo. Within 10 minutes, the far back line went off with that ole familiar sound as crew members were certain they would have their first Hoo of the morning. Much to the crew’s surprise the fish on the business end of the Black Bart was a King Mackerel in the mid 20 pound range. After arriving at the 100/400 the bite was on! It was a steady bite for nearly 2 hours with gaffer size Mahi showing up in groves.  Capt Bob’s Pirate Plugs of South Chatham Tackle earned first place for the Mahi bite. That wishful Wahoo bite finally arrived around noon after a Hoo in the 30 pound range attacked chartreuse Pirate Plug. The Mahi bite continued on until mid afternoon. The great surprise catch of the day did not come until Capt. Logan suggested to the crew they try their hand with some Blue Water Candy Roscoe Jigs. What a great call by Captain Logan for this lead to the catch of the day, a 22 pound beautiful African Pompano boated by Ronnie Ensminger. Now that’s just about as good as it can get. Needless to say it was a great day on the water despite the less than favorable sea conditions and a good time was had by all aboard the Stand ‘N Down II.

Holden Beach Fishing Report May 16 2009
Monday, May 18th, 2009
On Saturday May the 16 2009 I had the privilege of taking Sonny Moss from Denver NC, Joby Garham from Columbia SC, Larry Graham from Springfield MO ,Larry Hilereth from Mooresville NC on a 3/4 day venture in search of King Mackerel . The sea was Bump so we headed out about 15 miles to start the day. When we got there we put the lines out and trolled around for about 30mins and no hits so we picked the lines and moved to 30 miles out. The water temperature was 70 out there. Upon arrival at the Ledge we marked good Bait. We were immediately rewarded with a King Mackerel about 15 lbs. For the next couple of hours we caught several nice Kings and Spanish Mackerel. We got our limit in King Mackerel (15 of them) and a few Spanish Mackerel troll Pirate Plugs ( from Capt Bob of South Chatham Tackle)Â with cigar minnow on them. All in all a awesome day of fishing on the Stand ‘N Down II out of Holden Beach North Carolina!

Spring Time Fishing with Stand ‘N Down Charters Holden Beach North Carolina.
Saturday, May 9th, 2009Spring Time Fishing
Major League Baseball is on TV, the smell of fresh cut grass lingers in the air, and the faint sound of a chirping cricket can only mean one thing. Spring time is FINALLY here! Mother Nature has calmed the howling winds and dealt us a hand that we can finally play. So why not don the sun block stowed away in the closet, find that lucky fishing hat from last year, and join us aboard the Stand ‘N Down II for the spring bite that’s coming in with a blast and swinging for the fences. Man! It’s on fire out there in ‘The Stream’ (Gulf Stream) with Wahoo being landed tipping the scales over 50 lbs. The beautiful and hard charging Mahi-Mahi are being found around the Saur Grass as they lay in a state of wait to put an air show on for you. Closer in shore will be King Mackerel, and accompanying them even closer to the beach, are Spanish Mackerel. Black Sea Bass, 12 inches and above can be found close to the beach around reefs and underwater structure. These fish fare extremely well on the table, and can be easily prepared.
There is an old adage that says,” In the end you will only regret the things you didn’t do opposed to the things that you did.” So put that spring cleaning off one more day and join us for the time of your life.
