8/16/09 Holden Beach Fishing Report
Sunday, August 16th, 2009Captain Keith Logan of Standing Down Charters out of Holden Beach, NC reports the Spanish Mackerel bite being hot on the beach. The limit of Spanish Mackerel in the 2-4 pound range have been landed over the past week on most 1/2 day charters. The Spanish have all been caught on 00 Clarkspoons behind a #1 planers. Further offshore Captain Logan has found King Mackerel in the mid teen range in approximately 100 feet of water. Most of the King Mackerel landed fell for a frozen cigar minnow. Even further offshore in the 50 mile range while bottom fishing Captain Logan reports catching the limits on Vermillion Snapper (Beeliners) along with Triggerfish and Blackbass.
8/15/09 3/4 Day Charter

In the photo above from left to right are Tyler Grahl and Wesley Baucom, both from Dallas NC. Fishing with their parents Kellie Grahl and Clint Baucom and grandfather Thurman Baucom aboard the Stand ‘N Down II with Captain Keith Logan of Standing Down Charters, Holden Beach NC. The crew found Spanish Mackerel in 35 feet of water off of Oak Island. The Spanish Mackerel fell for 00 Clarkspoon with a green flash behind a #1 planer. A few King Mackerel were landed, all in the 25 inch range. A great time was had by all. The calm seas were definitely welcomed after the howling southwest winds that plagued us earlier in the month.

In the photo from left to right is Tim Brown from Arlington Va., John Brown from Forest Va., along with Steve and Shelly Yow from Charlottesville Va. A great day was had by by the entire crew as Captain Keith Logan and First Mate Johnny Jones of Stand ‘N Down Charters found the Spanish Mackerel along with some small King Mackerel in approximately 27 feet of water off of Oak Island. The Spanish and King Mackerel fell for a pink and green flash 00 Clarkspoon behind a #1 planer.
8/14/09 1/2 Day Charter Morning

In the above photo from left to right is US Army Captain Tanner Spry from Savannah GA, Bret Besumen from Bozeman Mt., Chad Hembree from Durhan NC, along with Mike and Kevin Hembree from Atlanta, GA. The crew fished with Capt Keith Logan of Stand ‘N Down Charters out of Holden Beach, NC.
Running an hour behind schedule due to early morning thunderstorm Captain Logan found some fine Spanish Mackerel in about 22 foot of water near “The Hot Hole.” The bite came from a 00 gold Clarkspoon towed behind a #1 planer. In the midst of dodging the rain showers and small storm cells Capt. Logan and his crew limited out on Spanish Mackerel, all in the 2-4 pound range.
